My students and I love using the Smart Board for math. Graphing, creating coordinate plots, fractions, and multiplication are just a few of the concepts that we work out on the board. Kids love interacting with the Smart Board and showing the rest of the class just how well they understand a concept. Last year we created a Jeopardy game that was made up of word problems that the kids wrote. In the end, the kids played their game and did a lot of math. They loved it! As well, the kids created 5 minute Power Point Presentations which they had to utilize to help them present their research projects on different countries around the world.

I use the Smart Board for the phonics lesson each day. Students interact with the Smart Board to reveal hidden spelling rules, syllabication, and to extend words by adding suffixes or prefixes.
This year we started math using this tool to make picture graphs. By drawing a table to show columns and rows, students can easily pop in pictures to each cell. We made "lunch" graphs, "weather" graphs, and "How many pockets do we have today?" graph. The images stay in the cell and adjust to the size of the cell with no effort. Students get excited when they see how the graph changes from fewest to most. Our biggest and best technology project was our Heritage Celebration using VoiceThread and GoogleEarth to visit where our relatives came from all over the globe. Surprisingly, most of my class immigrated from Scotland. We used the SmartBoard as the students made their presentations in front of their parents. I've noticed how students grasp a concept quicker than usual when using the Smart Board. It's amazing!

We are learning to identify all of the states. Using the picture of the US in the gallery, students use the markers to write the abbreviation of the state on the SMARTBoard.

My kinder students cheer when I turn the projector on to use the SMART Board. This year, our calendar information is on the SMART Board. We count the days in school, graph the weather, extend the pattern and identify the days of the week. All my students are engaged and anxiously await their turn to use the board. Currently their favorite tool is the magic pen. They chant "magic pen" and giggle with excitement when the time arrives to use it.
Last year I was introduced to Google Earth. As we read different chapter books, the students would identify the setting. We then typed the location into Google Earth and flew around the world to that destination. As we read one of our favorite books, the students were able to walk down the streets of London and get a feel of what the character in our book saw.

Our students have using the smart board to work on Reading skills. We've been working on Point of View in class, and the use of the smart board has helped the students better understand this concept.

My students grasp a concept quicker than usual when using the Smart Board. We use the smart board to help with just about every math lesson. We are currently working on place value and we use the place value blocks from our picture gallery to represent Numbers and their value. They stay engaged in the lesson!

As the school's special education resource teacher I find the Smart Board to be an invaluable tool. It helps me individualize instruction and provide visual, auditory, and kinesthetic approaches that meet the needs of all learners. The students are involved in their learning. Incorporating the use of interactive tools for math instruction (the 100's chart, shape tools, dice, etc.) has truly helped students improve their number sense. Writing activities using the Smart Board engage even the most reluctant writers. I continue to be amazed by the teaching and learning opportunities this technology provides.

My students enjoyed the activities at http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/8_9/science_8_9.shtml
when studying the ecosystem science kit. The students review their knowledge about the ecosystem using the SMART Board. They love it so much they beg to repeat it over and over again.

Let me try this again. The site is

One of the newest experiences we had with the smartboard in our classroom was for a math demonstration. With such a large class, I couldn't gather the students around the demonstration table in order for everyone to have a clear view. I was planning to demonstrate how to create an AB pattern using patterns blocks when I realized this wasn't going to work if everyone was to see. Plan B: I was able to copy pattern blocks from the picture gallery onto the notebook page and used "infinate clone" to duplicate the pattern blocks. The demonstration took place on the screen for all to see. With the resources we have available, the lesson went on without a hitch.

The Dragons love the Smart Board. We use it for math to work on our place value. The documents for our Harcourt reading program are loaded and we review the concepts with the whole class looking on and keeping everyone engaged. Two years ago a student teacher put together a jeopardy game for our science kit - air and weather. Of course, they LOVE it!

One of the great features of the Smart Notebook software is that it allows you to play a sound by clicking on an object. This is a great feature to have and it really adds to the overall effectiveness of a lesson if used appropriately. I especially like using sound in conjunctions with animation to provide an additional form of feedback to the students.
